Between "Painted with oil on canvas, this captivating work reverberates with an elusive fluidity more commonly associated with watercolour. Exquisite, nuanced and leaving plenty to the viewer's imagination, it is a masterclass in knowing just when to stop."

BETWEEN
ARTS WHAKATANE AWARD 2017 at the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award 120 x 100cm Oil on canvas The image for Between emerged from Raewyn’s practice of spontaneous undirected drawing. The forms carry their own hidden narratives, interconnecting in a trinity-like relationship. Paused in a moment in time the painting’s meditative quality becomes a visual metaphor for the inner spaces of the imagination, and a sense that there is a 'wholeness at the heart of everything.' Raewyn's art practice is drawn from a philosophical viewpoint, which explores ideas and notions of existence and "being", and incorporates her interest in contemplative thought. Her inspiration is drawn from the natural world - the relationship between forms, and light and mood. |
